How Can I Find and Cancel Forgotten Subscriptions?
Source-reviewed editorial guide. Product records describe documented claims and official listings; SomeoneAIThis did not create accounts, connect private data, make purchases, or hands-on test these products.
Quick answer
What should I do first?
Review at least 12–13 months of transactions across every bank account and card, then check Apple, Google Play, PayPal, Amazon, and direct merchant accounts separately. Cancel through the channel that bills you, save the confirmation, and verify the next statement. Rocket Money can flag subscriptions on its free plan, but cancellation help is paid and does not cover every provider.
Problem brief
What this guide covers
A channel-by-channel subscription audit covering statements, Apple, Google Play, PayPal, Amazon, direct merchants, cancellation proof, and privacy tradeoffs.
Why one subscription screen is not enough
Recurring charges can be spread across bank accounts, credit cards, app stores, PayPal billing agreements, Amazon services, and direct merchant accounts. Annual renewals may appear only once in a year, and the statement descriptor may not match the brand name you recognize. A dashboard can help, but no single service is guaranteed to see every payment rail or cancel every merchant.
Complete a subscription audit
- Download or review transaction history for every checking account, savings account used for payments, credit card, and payment wallet.
- Cover at least 12 to 13 months so you have a better chance of catching annual renewals as well as monthly charges.
- Mark repeated merchants, unfamiliar descriptors, small trial conversions, annual charges, and payments whose amount changes.
- Separately check Apple, Google Play, PayPal, and the relevant Amazon subscription areas for every account or profile you use.
- Sort each candidate into keep, cancel, or investigate. Do not treat an unfamiliar descriptor as fraud until you check the merchant and household users.
- Cancel through the channel that actually bills you. A subscription bought through an app store may need to be canceled there rather than with the service itself.
- Save the confirmation page or email, the effective end date, and any case number. Then check the next statement for another charge.
- Put a quarterly or twice-yearly review on your calendar and add renewal reminders for annual plans you keep.
Check each billing channel
Menu names can differ by device, region, account type, and service. These paths were rechecked against current official help pages on October 13, 2026.
| Channel | Where to look | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | On iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → select the subscription → Cancel Subscription. Apple also provides a web cancellation flow. | This covers subscriptions billed by Apple. If there is no Apple receipt, check the statement for the company that bills you. Family members generally manage their own subscriptions. |
| Google Play | On the web: Google Play subscriptions → Manage → Cancel subscription. On Android, open the subscription in Google Play and follow the cancellation steps. | Uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription. Check that you are signed into the correct Google Account. |
| PayPal | Settings → Payments → Subscriptions and saved businesses or Automatic Payments → select the merchant. | Stopping the PayPal automatic-payment agreement prevents future authorized payments through that agreement; contact the seller about a completed payment or refund. |
| Amazon | Start with Your Memberships & Subscriptions, then inspect the relevant service area such as Prime Video add-ons, Amazon Appstore subscriptions, or Subscribe & Save. | Amazon charges are split across service types. Do not assume one page contains every Amazon-related recurring charge, and use the billing channel shown on the transaction. |
Manual audit or linked financial app?
| Approach | What it can do | Privacy and coverage tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Manual statement audit | Works across institutions when you gather every statement; no third-party financial aggregator is required. | More time and judgment. You must resolve merchant aliases and remember every account. Do not upload full statements to an unknown AI tool. |
| Linked financial app | Groups transactions and can flag recurring patterns automatically. | Requires financial-account connections and data processing under the app's and connection provider's policies. Coverage depends on the accounts you link and the quality of detection. |
What Rocket Money currently offers
Rocket Money's own January 2026 pricing guide says its free plan can display subscriptions after linked accounts are analyzed. Premium adds cancellation assistance and is typically offered on a choose-your-price scale of $7–$14 per month; Premium+ is listed at $15 per month. Prices can vary, and the July 2026 help page says the sliding scale may differ by platform.
This is cancellation assistance, not a promise to cancel everything. Rocket Money's help center says that when no Cancel option appears, it cannot cancel that provider and instead may show self-cancellation instructions. Charges billed through Apple, Google, or another third party generally must be canceled through that billing platform. The company says account connections use Plaid; that convenience means evaluating both Rocket Money's and the connection provider's privacy and security terms before linking accounts.
| Feature | Free | Premium / Premium+ | Evidence limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| View detected subscriptions | Yes, vendor documented | Yes | Detection completeness was not independently tested. |
| Cancellation assistance | No | Yes, for supported providers | Some providers and third-party billing channels still require the user to act. |
| Price | $0 | Premium typically $7–$14/month; Premium+ $15/month, vendor documented | Recheck inside the signup flow because pricing may vary. |
| Data access | Linked financial accounts | Linked financial accounts plus paid features | SomeoneAIThis did not create an account or connect financial data. |
Confirm that the cancellation actually finished
A removed app icon, deleted account, declined card, or canceled PayPal agreement does not always settle the underlying contract. Read the confirmation for the service end date, remaining installment obligations, and refund rules. Keep proof, watch the next billing cycle, and contact the merchant or card issuer through an official channel if a charge continues or is unauthorized.
Current alternatives
How people handle this today
The most complete vendor-neutral baseline is a manual audit of every statement and billing platform. Bank recurring-payment views, app-store subscription pages, PayPal automatic payments, Amazon service pages, email searches, and calendar reminders each cover only part of the picture.

What’s still missing?
Unresolved parts of the problem
Detection is mature. The harder gaps are reliable pre-charge trial warnings, cancellations that require a phone call or identity verification, and privacy-friendly tracking that does not require linking every financial account.
